CAS Steering Committee

 

Meeting Minutes
October 1, 1999
11:30 a.m.- 1:00 a.m.

 

Members Present:  Craig Froke, Gary Langer, Charles Morris, Margo Mueller, John Printz, Wayne Sigler. Donna Triebwasser

1.        Discussion of CAS project in Minnesota.  Need to develop proposal and plan for official sanction by policymakers. Gary reviewed the MnCAS proposal that he developed with Jason Elwood of Miami U (Ohio).  The proposal calls for:

·         using the MnVU server to house CAS

·         asking MnVU to cover for the CAS license for MnSCU and UM (St. Thomas would pay 'additional student'

·         rate of $.50/student)

·         hire RSmart for install CAS and Bluestone development tool

·         contract with Miami for specific technical assistance from Miami U

       The cost of this proposal is estimated at $194,000.

 MnSCU and U of M would provide through internal organization and budgets:

·         CAS Project leadership

·         development of CAS Implementation Teams on the campuses/colleges

·         development of CAS for Metro Alliance and U of M campuses first with invitation to others to join this initial group

·         campus allocations, if needed

2.        Gary will bring CAS proposal to ISEEK/MnVU Executive Committee meeting on October 8, 1999.

3.        Gary will send request to Wayne of specific needs for project as result of ISEEK/MnVU meeting and other factors to elicit official approval of project from the U of M (Craig Swan).  Gary will also send similar message to Linda Baer at MnSCU.

4.        Need to have support from Michael Handberg and Web Development office for CAS implementation.

5.        Agreed on goal to obtain official approval by end of October with contract with Miami U. by end of  November.  Gary to obtain sample CAS contract from Miami U.

6.        Target implementation date selected - October 1, 2000

7.        Wayne volunteered to develop Communication Plan. 

8.        Gary volunteered that MnSCU coordinate project planning for CAS.

9.        Agreement by members to keep CAS project low key and moving forward toward success - for the good of Minnesota students and taxpayers.
