Laurie and Fred updated the group about the status of the server.  As reported in an April email update, we determined that the ISEEK test server would not meet our needs.  We then purchased a server that is large enough to meet our needs for at least a year or two.  We hired a tech contractor to set up the server.  It is now set up to the point that CAS & DARS work on the server.  Fred next has to load the data from the old server on to the new server.

Once that is done, Fred will be ready to make arrangements with Sandi and Gary at the U to have their DARS data FTP’d to the new server or for him to go to a U of M FTP site to access the data.  We discussed again the plan to FTP files monthly from the U to update DARS data on an ongoing basis.  George and Jason will work with Fred to get him the appropriate IP addresses so that they will have access to the server.  Several people will need to be able to update tables if there are problems.  There will be considerable testing of the tables to determine if the information has been loaded from the mainframe DARS at the U to the DARwin tables in the server that CAS will use.  Also the U will need to work on a crosswalk table to convert any “non-FICE” codes for institutions in DARS to the appropriate FICE codes.

Fred will be contacting Sandi to get FTP directions from her.  Other next steps: Convert the data in the old CAS server to the new CAS server.  Get DARS tables from the U.  George and Jason will see that Fred gets all the necessary IP addresses for the U of M people.

NOTE: Since the meeting Laurie has completed a contract amendment to arrange up to 20 hours of additional time from our TechPro contractor to assist Fred and ITS with any issues related to the final server setup.
